The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Global and International Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, with proposed starting date of July 1, 2022. UNBC’s Department of Global and International Studies offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in preparation for international careers and explores issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. We seek an individual who has demonstrated expertise in either or both of the following areas: (1) global governance & social justice and (2) global political economy & development. Irrespective of theme, the Department particularly invites applications from those who can provide perspectives from subaltern studies, African studies, the Global South, and/or South-South relations in their teaching and research. The Department of Global and International Studies values diversity and welcomes applications from members of historically and currently disadvantaged groups.
Applicants for this position should hold a PhD (or have completed all the components of a PhD prior to the start date), in a social science or humanities discipline or field, including but not limited to: Anthropology, Geography, Global Studies, History, Indigenous Studies, International Development Studies, Political Science, Regional/Area Studies, Sociology, or Women’s/Gender Studies. Applicants should also have a growing record of scholarly activity, as well as present evidence of and commitment to teaching excellence.
For this position, we seek an individual with an established program of research and related scholarly activity as appropriate to stage of career. Preference will be given to applicants who are substantially grounded in an interdisciplinary approach to both research and teaching and can contribute to teaching and graduate supervision in the cognate fields of Women’s/Gender Studies, History, and/or Anthropology.
The successful candidate will teach INTS 210 (Globalizations) and INTS 700-3 (Research Methods in Global Studies) in the undergraduate and graduate program respectively, in addition to courses in the incumbent’s area of expertise, and will have the opportunity to supervise graduate students in the INTS MA program.

It includes a satellite campus in the coastal community of Prince Rupert.
