Assistant Professor in Engineering Design and Core, Teaching Focus (1-year CL)

The School of Engineering at the University of Guelph invites outstanding candidates for a 1-year contractually-limited teaching focused position at the Assistant Professor level.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and will have earned a doctorate in engineering, have an outstanding teaching record, and have research experience at the University level or significant industry experience in engineering design. We are particularly interested in applicants who have a strong teaching record in large, inter-disciplinary, core and design engineering courses. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (or other province) is preferred for this position.
Qualified applicants must have the expertise to teach a large number of our courses, particularly our engineering design sequence and other fundamental core engineering science courses. In the School of Engineering, students from different undergraduate programs share courses in fundamental engineering science and engineering design. We are particularly interested in applicants who can engage students in different engineering programs in large classes. The successful applicant will also be able to teach a selection of senior undergraduate courses as well as graduate courses in their disciplines. Responsibilities will also include advising undergraduate design teams.
Candidates must demonstrate excellent undergraduate teaching interest and ability and strong research potential. University level teaching experience (beyond a teaching assistant) is preferred. To provide evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry, applicants must submit a teaching dossier that includes: a teaching statement describing philosophy, approach, interests, and experience in all pedagogical settings including classroom, engineering design instruction, laboratory, tutorials, workshops, small group and individual mentorship; awards and accolades; and evidence of successful teaching (e.g., peer evaluations or unsolicited student feedback).
Strength in design and engineering design pedagogy is preferred. The ideal candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of the School’s engineering design curriculum and will collaborate with other School faculty to integrate engineering design more broadly across the Engineering undergraduate program.
Preference will be given to the candidate who will combine excellence in teaching with a demonstrated capacity to conduct novel, pedagogy research that will expand and complement our current research strengths. The ideal candidate will be a professional engineer (P.ENG) or be eligible to obtain their designation.
