Position description

The Ingram School of Nursing of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Indigenous Health. This tenure-track position is open for appointment to the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The successful candidate will be joining the School at a stimulating time of growth and new energy with a recent expansion in education- and research-focused faculty, major curricular revisions, and a new physical space featuring state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities.

This reflects a strong commitment to building capacity to improve individual and community outcomes and practices through culturally-responsive and community-engaged teaching and research.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program and to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching for our diverse student body. The successful incumbent will also be expected to contribute to service activities within the School, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the University and the wider scholarly community. Examples include revising curricula to ensure inclusion of Indigenous ways of knowing and mentorship of faculty regarding optimal teaching and learning strategies regarding Indigenous Health for students.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

Candidates will have been educated as nurses or have a research focus relevant to nursing, have a doctorate in a health-related discipline and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Post-doctoral training will be an asset, as will evidence of success in receiving competitive, external research funding. Promising candidates who would benefit from additional post-doctoral training may exceptionally be considered for a transitional fellowship in preparation for moving into this tenure-track position.

Lived experience in Indigenous communities or with Indigenous populations in urban settings is expected. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to – and in accordance with circumstances, a track record in – equity, diversity, and inclusiveness (EDI) in such contexts. In accordance with McGill’s responsibilities in relation to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, and in response to commitments made in McGill’s Task Force on Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Education preference will be given to candidates of Indigenous identity in filling these positions.

All candidates should be fluent in English, and would benefit from a working knowledge of French.
