Assistant Professor — Full-time, Tenure-track Specializing in Racial Equity and Public Policy

The School of Public Policy in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Simon Fraser University, invites applications for full-time tenure-track faculty position specializing in Racial Equity and Public Policy at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position’s expected start date is July 15, 2023.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A PhD or equivalent credential in a relevant field, including but not limited to Indigenous studies, law, public policy, sociology, Black studies,
gender studies, labour studies, political science and economics;
• Relevant teaching experience;
• Research expertise in race and public policy as it relates to fields such as (but not limited to): public policy to improve the lives of
Indigenous, Black, and racialized peoples; government institutions; refugees and refugee governance; migration; law and criminal justice;
health systems and determinants of health;
• Scholarship grounded in a race and public policy framework, critical race studies, critical feminism, post-colonial studies, anti-oppression,
Black studies, social justice, intersectionality, critical and feminist political economy, or other related theoretical frameworks. We additionally
are open to scholarship grounded in Indigenous knowledge, methodologies and/or epistemologies as well as scholarship that might be
distinct from Western academic tradition and/or follow ethical principles of community direction and governance;
• Demonstrated commitment to anti-colonial perspectives, equity, diversity, and inclusion within academia;
• A strong publication record and outstanding potential for research excellence;
• Evidence of inclusive pedagogy and excellent teaching skills in an interdisciplinary setting;
• The ability to work effectively with colleagues across disciplinary fields in public policy.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent credential in hand by the appointment start date or shortly thereafter. They will:
• Enhance and expand the research strengths of the School;
• Work with colleagues to support diverse students and develop the School’s curriculum in race equity and public policy;
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the School of Public Policy;
• Participate in service to the School, the University and the broader community.
Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience relevant to the School’s Master’s in Public Policy required courses and with
experience of public policy engagement and outreach appropriate to a professional school of public policy. The ideal candidate will
demonstrate experience with and/or understanding of inclusive teaching and mentoring, and the ability to meet the needs of equity-
deserving students. Demonstrated experience in increasing diversity in the previous institutional environment, and in curriculum, is an asset.

• a two-page research statement outlining the applicant’s research program and 5 year plan;
• a 1-page statement of alignment with SFU’s strategic vision and values including its commitment to: equity, diversity, and inclusion; SFU’s

Calls to Action for Reconciliation; and community engaged research with diverse populations;
• a representative publication;
• a one-page teaching statement on the applicant’s teaching philosophy; and
• names and addresses of three references.

This is a junior faculty position. Only those eligible to be promoted or appointed to the rank of Assistant Professor will be considered. The position is subject to the availability of funding.
