Assistant Professor: Indigenous Language Education
The Department of Integrated Studies in Education invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Indigenous language education. Supporting the Department’s growing contributions to Indigenous language education and research, the successful candidate will bring expertise and experience to one or more of the following areas: Indigenous language pedagogies and curriculum design; social and cultural approaches to Indigenous language maintenance and revitalization; and Indigenous language policy and planning. The ideal applicant will have lived experience in an Indigenous language community, a strong record of community-engaged scholarship, as well as evidence of teaching and research in First Nations and/or Metis and Inuit communities.
The candidate’s responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, supervising undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will also be responsible for teaching courses offered by the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) and for contributing to the development of the Office’s in-community programs. Following the Provost’s recent Task Force on Indigenous Education and Indigenous Studies, the candidate’s responsibilities will also include working with Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff and faculty to develop an inter-disciplinary framework for Indigenous community-engagement at McGill (see https://www.mcgill.ca/equity_diversity/files/equity_diversity/final_report_of_the_provosts_task_force_on_indigenous_studies_and_indigenous_education_0.pdf).
