LIMITED-TERM FACULTY POSITION IN EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS

The School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts at Laurentian University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a twelve-month limited term faculty position with a six course (18 credits) teaching workload at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Equity, Diversity and Human Rights. The preferred start date is August 1, 2023.

Candidates must have completed a PhD degree by the start date of the appointment and relevant experience can be an asset. The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in Sociology or a relevant discipline. The Equity, Diversity and Human Rights program at Laurentian University draws courses from several disciplines, such as Anthropology, Gerontology, History, Law and Justice, Psychology, and Sociology.
• The ability to effectively teach at the undergraduate level courses related to equity, diversity and human rights with a commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence, promoting a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment, and advancing Laurentian University’s bilingual and tricultural mandates.
• Evidence of engagement in research and scholarship related to social justice, marginalization, discrimination, harassment, victimization, and policies/programs geared toward enhancing equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive and vibrant academic and work environment.
• Though the teaching for this position is in English, the selected candidate is expected to have active knowledge of both official languages (functional bilingualism) or passive comprehension of the French/English languages (receptive bilingualism).

This position is linked to the Interdisciplinary Studies in the Faculty of Arts. Since the Equity, Diversity and Human Rights program is located in the Sociology unit, part of the teaching load will include relevant courses in Sociology. The successful candidate will participate actively, and on site, in the administration of the program and the supervision of students. In addition to active engagement and participation in teaching, the incumbent will be expected to make contributions through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community.

With bilingual and tricultural faculty, the School of Social Sciences offers programs in English and French. Apart from undergraduate programs in Criminology, Economics, Equity Diversity and Human Rights, Gerontology, Psychology, and Sociology, the School offers a Ph.D. in Human Studies and Interdisciplinarity.
