Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Biotechnology

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (https://cumming.ucalgary.ca/departments/bmb) in the Cumming School of Medicine (https://cumming.ucalgary.ca/), invites applications from qualified candidates for a Limited Term position at the Assistant Professor (Teaching) level.

The successful candidate will be an integral member of the teaching team of the Masters of Biomedical Technology (MBT) program. The candidate will dedicate 80% of their time to teaching with the remaining time devoted to service and/or scholarly activities related to education. There is no protected research time or formal research expectation. Duties include lectures, lab-instruction, small group instruction, exam setup and other duties as assigned. The candidate will also contribute to management and leadership of the Masters of Biomedical Technology curriculum, evaluation of courses, and to curriculum development. The chosen candidate will also be responsible for organizing outreach and networking events involving students, local biotech firms, and government agencies. Additionally, they will be tasked with composing internal reports on a biennial basis.

Qualifications include an MSc, with the requirement to obtain a PhD (or equivalent degree) within 5 years of commencing the position. The candidate must have more than 10 years’ experience in teaching biotechnology, professional development and knowledge translation to graduate students as evidenced by a record of high quality lecture, small group and lab-based instruction. Selection criteria include academic qualifications, teaching experience, evidence of teaching quality, evidence of scholarly engagement with graduate education and educational leadership experience. The ideal candidate will have training in biotechnology education or a closely-related field at the MSc or PhD level.
