About the Position

Brock University invites applications for a 3-year limited-term appointment in World Music/Historical Musicology at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2020. The position is subject to final budgetary approval. The successful candidate will be expected to:

•Teach undergraduate courses in music in global cultures and historical topics in music
•Engage in a program of academic research in their chosen area(s)
•Participate in the affairs of the Department
•Fulfill service commitments to the Department and University
•Engage actively in recruitment and community outreach

The Department of Music is part of the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts within the Faculty of Humanities. The MIWSFPA consists of the Departments of Music, Dramatic Arts, Visual Arts, and the Centre for Studies in Arts and Culture. Music is home to five full-time faculty members, two staff members, and a complement of part-time instructors and offers the degrees of Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts. The Department has a vibrant music performance culture, and stages weekly concerts throughout the academic year. In addition, the Department of Music has five ensembles—two choirs, a wind ensemble, a string orchestra and the Brock Big Band—and each of these perform concerts once a term.


•A completed doctorate and a demonstrated ongoing record of research activity in one or more sub-disciplines of world music and/or historical musicology. Interdisciplinary research based in one of more of these areas is encouraged. Other sub-discipline specializations that complement the main specialization in world music/historical musicology will be favourably considered
•Demonstrated record of high-quality and innovative university-level teaching in these areas
•Post-doctoral experience and/or other university appointments will be considered assets
