Assistant Professor, Inorganic Materials Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry at The University of Western Ontario (Western) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in inorganic materials chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor (Probationary Tenure Track). Specific areas of research interest include, but are not limited to, inorganic materials degradation, new materials for energy conversion and storage, greenhouse gas capture and conversion, catalysis development using Earth abundant elements for greener processes, and photo- and electrocatalysis for energy storage and other green technologies. Such areas represent excellent opportunities for multidisciplinary approaches, e.g., machine learning development, to be integrated. The successful candidate is expected to pursue innovative and independent research and to establish an outstanding, competitively funded research program that will be able to leverage externally funded research with industry partners.
Candidates must have a PhD degree in Inorganic Chemistry or a related discipline with a demonstrated record of excellence in research. Additional experience as a postdoctoral researcher is expected. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching excellence in inorganic chemistry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to the research training of undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows. Evidence of impactful contributions to teaching, mentorship and leadership activities is a strong asset.
The Department of Chemistry (https://www.uwo.ca/chem/) is a research-intensive department in Western’s Faculty of Science (https://www.uwo.ca/sci/), with both undergraduate and graduate programs. They offer access to the latest in analysis technology and techniques including secondary ion mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy with focussed ion beam, X-ray photoelectron microscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, X- ray diffraction and Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry. In addition, Western has strong ties to the Canadian Light Source.

The anticipated start date is Jan 1, 2023 although an earlier start date is negotiable.
