Associate Professor - Applied Economics
The Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of Applied Economics, with a focus on developing regions. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter.
Applicants must have earned a PhD in Economics, with a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing strengths. The Munk School seeks a scholar with an empirical research agenda in the field of applied economics, with a focus on developing regions. Preference will be given to candidates with research relating to South Asia, Southeast Asia, and/or Africa. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Candidates with evidence of or demonstrable interest in policy engagement will be strongly preferred. The successful candidate will teach applied economics courses in both of the Munk School’s professional graduate programs (the Master of Global Affairs and the Master of Public Policy) to students with a wide range of backgrounds and interests. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience teaching economics in a professional school, and experience in an interdisciplinary environment.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked Economics and field relevant academic journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, a successful and solid record of attracting research grants, other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the field, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong endorsements of teaching in the letters of reference.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
