The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a teaching stream tenure-track position in computer science at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, to commence on or soon after July 1, 2021. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
The successful applicant will be based at York’s new Markham Centre Campus when operational (expected in Fall 2023) and to become members of the first cohort of resident faculty members. Between appointment date and the opening of the campus, the appointee will assume a combination of teaching responsibilities at York’s Keele campus and contribute to the development of academic and research programming planned for the new Markham Centre Campus.

This position will support the development of a new integrated degree in Digital Technologies, which will be based on a Work-Integrated Learning model, where the students are full-time employees with a company while undertaking their studies. The development of this program involves an outcomes-based approach where competencies and outcomes are developed in collaboration with sponsoring employers and program leads, and learning experiences are scaffolded throughout the program as a blend of workplace and formal (university) learning. The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses and to provide creative educational leadership, guidance and direction in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation in the workplace and classroom. Graduate teaching may be possible for those appointed to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Candidates should have a PhD in Computer Science (or related field), or a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field) along with a doctorate focusing on higher education pedagogy (such as Ed.D), or both Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Computer Science (or related field) with a significant record of professional experience in computer science and software development. Experience in collaborating with industry and community partners is an asset.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses through: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as work integrated and community-based learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to computer science teaching, learning and program design, and demonstrate good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
