Director of the Centre for Social and Sustainable Innovation (CSSI)

The Peter B. Gustavson School of Business invites applications from talented scholars for the position of Director of the Centre for Social and Sustainable Innovation (CSSI) at the University of Victoria. The Director will be appointed as a regular faculty member at the Associate or Full Professor level with tenure. The Director CSSI position is a five year renewable term. Candidates must have a PhD, ideally in management, business or a related discipline, currently hold an academic position at the rank of associate professor or professor, have an outstanding record of publication and will be recognized as an authority in the area of sustainability and/or social innovation, broadly defined. Some experience in administration in an academic setting would be of value.

Qualified candidates will have a strong focus in Social Innovation, Sustainability, Indigenous Entrepreneurship, Business and Society, Business and the Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility, Philanthropy, Non-Profit Management, Ethics and/or Social Entrepreneurship in both their research and teaching.

Candidates must have teaching experience and demonstrate interest in engaging teaching practices. Candidates must have experience in supervising PhD students with multidisciplinary and diverse backgrounds.

Our faculty are globally recognized research leaders conducting cutting edge research on such topics as Indigenous entrepreneurship, business and human rights, climate change strategy, health and meaning at work and the alleviation of poverty and inequality. We seek to complement and extend our already vibrant research community with a scholar dedicated to publishing high quality research in top-rated academic journals. Commensurate with their career stage, qualified candidates must have either an established publishing record in leading scholarly journals or a strong research pipeline including high quality scholarly papers targeted to such journals.

Gustavson is home to the Centre for Social and Sustainable Innovation (CSSI), a highly regarded inter-faculty centre devoted to research, teaching and community engagement in sustainability.

The School of Business offers Bachelor of Commerce, Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Global Business degrees – all of which have a sustainability focus embedded in their curricula and a strong co-op component – as well as a PhD in International Management and Organization. Scholarship and teaching at the School are strongly aligned around our three areas of specialization: International Business, Service Management and Entrepreneurship and our guiding pillars - Sustainable/Social Responsible, International, Innovative and Integrative. We are a pioneer and leader in integrating curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Gustavson is one of the few North American schools that is accredited by both the European Federation of Management Development (EQUIS) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Qualified candidates for this position must have a PhD from a research intensive university that is AACSB or EQUIS accredited. They must also have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate proficiency in the classroom.

The experiential dimension in our academic programs includes a mandatory co-op program for all undergraduate students, international exchanges, and overseas co-op work opportunities. In line with this approach, we will give preference to candidates with direct business experience and international experience.
