The University of Western Ontario (Western University) is an internationally renowned research-intensive university that is ranked among the top-ten in Canada, and prides itself in the student experience of its educational programs. Included in these programs are medical (MD) and dental (DDS) students within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (the School), which accounts for the only other dental school in Ontario that is outside of Toronto. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has a long tradition of excellence, beginning with the founding of the medical school in 1881 and continuing with the formation of the dental school in 1964. It is one of Canada’s preeminent medical and dental schools and is known for being the birthplace of family medicine in Canada. For more than 130 years, the School has demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and a passion for scientific discovery. Accordingly, the dental school draws on a highly qualified and talented pool of applicants that train in a very rigorous and demanding professional program. The didactic content is enriched by the medical sciences, and the clinical experience supported by local general and specialist practitioners, and a large patient pool from across Southwestern Ontario.

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for 2 positions to begin on January 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be appointed in a Full-time Probationary (tenure-track) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Exceptional applicants will be considered for an appointment at a higher rank. Qualified applicants will have a DDS/DMD degree (or equivalent) and PhD (or equivalent research training). Candidates must be eligible for full or academic registration (licensure) as a dentist within the Province of Ontario, as stipulated by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO). They will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program in dental research and should have a record of achievement in research and publication appropriate for their stage of career. Any area of dental research can apply, although preference will be given to applicants in the following fields: dental public health, paediatric dentistry, oral health care policy, periodontics, periodontal medicine, bioinformatics, data science, or artificial intelligence.

In addition to leading a successful research program, the successful candidates will participate in the teaching and service activities of Schulich Dentistry. They will hold a primary appointment in Schulich Dentistry and be considered for cross-appointment in departments within and outside of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
