Learning Specialist, in Academic and Mental Health Counselling and Student Success

The University of Windsor’s Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a Twelve (12) month Limited-term Learning Specialist position at the rank of Ancillary Academic Staff I or II, in the field of Academic and Mental Health Counselling and Student Success commencing September 1, 2021. Rank will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience. This position is a hybrid position between the Dean’s Office and the School of Dramatic Art, and is subject to final budgetary approval.

The position encompasses primarily advising and counselling, on-line and in person, students who are experiencing academic and mental heath issues. This position has been created to focus on student success and retention through academic advising and mental health counselling. The candidate will serve on the academic standing committee and handle academic integrity matters.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree (preferred) or an MA/MSW in Clinical Psychology or Social Work, with a background in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Other essential qualifications include: experience in on-line and hybrid academic advising; some research experience and/or publications in the area of retention and on-line advising and/or clinical mental health counselling; 3 to 5 years' experience in an administrative University setting, including knowledge of undergraduate programs and policies; demonstrated experience in student advising and clinical counselling, and Academic Integrity issues; advanced English communication skills both written and verbal, including the capacity to independently compose correspondence and reports with high level of accuracy; excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with students, instructors, faculty staff and external partners/stakeholders in a professional and supportive manner; demonstrated organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities and demands; demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills including an established record of exercising initiative; demonstrated understanding of the principles of anti-discrimination, human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion, staff and student equity, occupational health and safety and other relevant legislation. A record of successful counselling in the Fine and Performing Arts would also be considered a valued asset.
