Director (Limited Term Appointment), Clinics and Practical Skills
The Faculty of Law at Western University invites applications for a Director of Clinics and Practical Skills. This three-year Limited Term faculty position, with the possibility of renewal, will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, and will be an important role in the ongoing development of our JD clinical and academic programming.
The Faculty welcomes applications from lawyers with a broad range of practice and teaching experience. Applicants must have a JD or LLB, and be licensed to practice Law in a Canadian common law jurisdiction. A graduate degree in Law or another discipline is also an asset. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in classroom and/or clinical teaching, and should be capable of supervising student work on legal files. Practice experience in one of criminal, family, or civil litigation is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Candidates should be prepared to develop and implement a vision for clinical and experiential legal education at Western Law, and to collaborate with full-time faculty to integrate experiential education into the broader JD curriculum. They should have the ability and willingness to contribute to the academic life of the Faculty and to the University more generally, and to build Western Law’s relationships with community partners in London and the surrounding area. The Director will be expected to teach clinical and/or more traditional academic courses, provide strategic direction for Western Law’s clinics, and work with funding partners including Legal Aid Ontario.

The Faculty currently has six clinical education programs: Community Legal Services (our primary Legal Aid clinic), the Western Business Law Clinic, Sport Solution (a partnership with AthletesCAN), the Dispute Resolution Centre, the Western Law Intellectual Property and Innovation Law Clinic, and a branch of Pro Bono Students Canada. We have also been expanding experiential learning opportunities in the form of externships, skills-related courses and modules, and capstone courses.
