Limited Term Appointment in Sociology

St. Thomas University

The Department of Sociology, St. Thomas University, invites applications for a 10-month limited-term appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 1, 2020, pending budgetary approval.

St. Thomas University is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution with a full-time enrolment of 1,900. Its students graduate with Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work degrees. The faculty members are distinguished teachers, researchers and scholars, and the university holds three Canada Research Chairs.

The Department of Sociology seeks candidates with a demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching. The selected candidate will be expected to teach three courses per term. They will teach Introduction to Sociology (a full-year course). In addition, they will teach courses in the fields of gender and media.

A PhD or imminent completion in Sociology is required. Completed applications must include a letter of application that describes the applicant’s teaching experience, scholarly interests and achievements, and potential contributions to the program as specified in the qualifications listed above. The application must also include a curriculum vitae and a teaching dossier that provides evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as sample course syllabi, teaching evaluations, and a statement of teaching philosophy.
