Limited-Term Contract in Music (Sault Ste. Marie Campus)

Algoma University (www.algomau.ca) has a special mission to be a teaching-oriented university that provides programs in the liberal arts and sciences, and professional programs, primarily at the undergraduate level. We have a particular focus on the needs of Northern Ontario, and a special mission to cultivate cross-cultural learning between Indigenous communities and other communities, in keeping with the history of Algoma University and its geographic site. With campuses in Sault Ste. Algoma University invites applications for a 1-year contractually-limited term appointment in Music, in the Department of Music and Visual Arts, at its Sault Ste. Marie campus, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2021. The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in Music, PhD preferred. The candidate will be expected to teach Introduction to Music and Materials of Music courses. In addition, the appointee will provide up to eight hours of applied instruction per week, assist in the organization of and attend weekly performance classes, participate in final examination juries as required, and contribute to university service as requested. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.

Candidates should submit electronically: a letter of application, a CV, a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., examples of peer teaching review and/or student evaluations), and a statement outlining research interests and accomplishments to Dr. István Imre, Acting Academic Dean, via deanapps@algomau.ca. Application materials should be submitted as a single combined PDF file. Applicants must also arrange for three confidential letters of reference to be sent directly to the same address. The PDF file and reference letters should have file names that identify the applicant. Complete applications received by 4 pm EST on May 4, 2021 will be assured of consideration, though the posting remains open until the position is filled. The position is subject to budgetary approval.
