Limited Term Faculty Positions in Psychology

The Opportunity
The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts at Ryerson University is pleased to invite applications for three (3), one-year Limited Term Faculty (LTF) positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointments shall be effective July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, subject to final budgetary approval.
The first position (LTF1) will include teaching in core areas such as Introduction to Psychology I and II and Psychology of Addictions. The second position (LTF 2) will include teaching in core areas such as Introduction to Psychology I, Adult Development and Psychology of Thinking. The third position (LTF3) will include teaching in core areas such as Adult Development and Introduction to Psychology II. Details are provided in the following table. The teaching location is planned for the Ryerson campus unless otherwise specified.

The Department of Psychology consists of 34 tenure-stream faculty members and offers undergraduate and graduate (Master’s and Doctoral) programs. Our faculty prides itself on the excellence of its research and on the quality of its teaching. We are interested in candidates that will contribute to our existing teaching strengths by bringing innovative and diverse perspectives and experiences to the work.

This position falls under the jurisdiction of the Ryerson Faculty Association (RFA) ( The RFA collective agreement can be viewed here and a summary of RFA benefits can be found here.

The duties of these positions shall consist only of teaching and service. The candidate will contribute to our undergraduate (BA) program through teaching and mentoring of students to facilitate junior scholars and diversify the field. The candidate will engage in maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities.

Candidates must hold, or be close to completing, an earned Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field by the appointment date. In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of:
experience as an effective teacher of large undergraduate classes;
experience supervising graduate assistants;
currency in the subject areas they will be expected to teach in;
ability to teach effectively in an online environment which includes demonstrated knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of online courses, including using course management system tools to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students in the course;
commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service and teaching including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
ability to contribute to the life of the Department and the University through collegial service.

Note: Limited Term Faculty appointments at Ryerson University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Ryerson LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.
