Position No. 29593

Applications are invited for a two-year term Research Associate position in the Department of Accounting and Finance in the I. H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. The anticipated appointment start date is February 1, 2021.

Under the direction of the principal investigator Dr. Steven Zheng, the successful applicant will conduct independent research in support of the Bank of Montreal Professorship program in Finance. Main responsibilities will include: reviewing the literature to generate new research ideas in the area of equity financing and corporate valuation, developing new hypotheses, collecting data from various structured and unstructured sources, processing and merging the data, conducting econometric analysis using the data and interpreting the results, writing research paper related to the above, presenting and publishing the research; other duties as required.

Candidates applying must have completed or nearly completed a Ph.D. in Finance with demonstrated experience and skills in corporate finance research. Experience in the following topics is deemed essential: equity financing and corporate valuation. Previous work/research experience in cross-listing is desirable. The job will require excellent computer skills, particularly in statistical packages (e.g., SAS and STATA), data analysis and the operation of econometric models, and above-average communication skills, including written and verbal English. Publication record is a plus. The compensation will be based on qualification and experience.

The I. H. Asper School of Business is the principal business school in the province of Manitoba and is accredited by AACSB. The School offers undergraduate, MFin, MBA, M.Sc. and PhD degrees.
