Research Associate (Approximation Algorithms for Optimization Problems)

This position works closely with two professors, Drs. Zachary Friggstad and Mohammad R. Salavatipour, on projects of design and analysis of approximation algorithms for clustering and vehicle routing optimization problems. The group includes two Ph.D. and three M.Sc. students, and is expected to grow in the coming year.

Duties
• Coordinate research lab activities amongst students (4-5 students)
• Assist in writing research papers
• Prepare presentations for conferences and workshops
• Participate and help with group research projects and mentor junior graduate students (2-3 students)

Qualifications
• Ph.D. in computer science required
• Postdoctoral experience in theoretical computer science is an asset
• Experience in design and analysis of approximation algorithms for optimization problems
• Extensive work experience in analysis of clustering algorithms and theoretical bounds for them, including k-means, facility location and variants of it, and similar problems
• Strong record of published work in the very top venues (conferences and journals) in theoretical computer science on the subjects listed above
• Experience working with/mentoring graduate students in the area of approximation algorithms for optimization problems.

In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this full time (FTE 1.0) position has a term length of one year, and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and an annual salary range of $58,210 - $80,050. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
