Research Chair in Human Microbiome and Probiotics
Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) seeks applicants for the Research Chair in Human Microbiome and Probiotics administered through the St. Joseph’s Health Care London Foundation. The successful candidate will have demonstrated academic excellence based on productivity and impact in research, be an exceptional scientific leader and role model, and will advance inter-disciplinary and translational research within St. Joseph’s Health Care London. The successful applicant will be based primarily at the Grosvenor Street site of St. Joseph’s Health Care London and will provide leadership for the Canadian Centre for Human Microbiome and Probiotic Research at Lawson where current projects emphasize real-life applications. The program solidifies probiotics research in areas of relevance including: probiotics, prebiotics, fecal microbiota transplant or defined microbial consortia delivery, beneficial microbes, fermented food, microbiome including bioinformatics, metabolomics, and pharmacology. It is expected that the incumbent will gain and retain international standing through research studies and communication of probiotic research. The successful candidate will have a proven track record as a successful, independent scientist and leader as evidenced by high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals, a strong record of supervising students and trainees, organizing international meetings and collaborative research efforts, and a superior record of attracting external funding. The candidate will have evidence of successfully leading research teams and promoting interdisciplinary scholarship.
The candidate will be expected to obtain an Institute Scientist appointment in a Department within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, dependent upon area of expertise. The appropriate rank for the Institute Scientist position will be determined at the time of initial appointment. Applicants must hold a PhD or MD or MD/PhD in a relevant field. If an MD, the successful candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario in accordance with the appropriate licensing body and must be certified, or eligible for certification as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Funding of this position is established through an endowment through St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation and paid through St. Joseph’s Health Care London, with salary commensurate to qualifications and experience.
Excellent facilities exist at Lawson and Western University for basic science research including core facilities at the Robarts Research Institute (www.Robarts.ca) and the recently opened ImPaKT facility (www.schulich.uwo.ca/impakt/index.html). The position offers considerable opportunity to interact with highly successful groups in microbiome, microbiology and immunology, surgery, urology, synthetic biology, medical imaging, regenerative and internal medicine, psychiatry, circulation, diabetes and metabolism, and clinical neurosciences.
