Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for one tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences/ School of Social Work
The academic rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will commence on August 1, 2023.
We are a small, research-active, community-involved School with an excellent undergraduate program that prepares students for generalist practice, and an MSW program that prepares students for advanced generalist practice. Our undergraduate program is offered in two formats: a four-year HBSW, and a 12-month HBSW designed specifically for students with a previous undergraduate degree. We have a particular commitment to education for practice in northern, rural and remote environments, but our graduates are equally prepared for work in urban centres.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Social Work, demonstrated ability to conduct impactful research and publish in peer-reviewed journals, and ability to teach at the BSW and MSW levels. Direct practice experience in clinical social work (counselling), and social work practice with families, as well as a demonstrated community-based practice research in the field of mental health and substance use are desired. The applicants should have the ability to teach generalist social work practice with a specific focus on social work communication and theory. Applicants should have a personal and professional commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice. Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired. Experience in online teaching and graduate supervision would be advantageous.
