The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities invites applications, from qualified individuals, for a tenure-track position in Psychology at the Assistant Professor level. This position is subject to budgetary approval, and would start on August 1, 2021.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct active and innovative research programs and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their own teaching in the University’s web-centric and mobile learning environment. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Psychology or will have completed a Ph.D by July 1, 2021, have a strong academic background; and an established record of excellence in innovative and scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications. Candidates must also demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions. In addition, Candidates should possess excellent English language skills demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.

The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 40% Research, 40% Teaching and 20% Service workload each year.

The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities is situated at Ontario Tech’s downtown Oshawa location. Classrooms and laboratory facilities are new and spacious. Police departments, mental health facilities, hospitals, addiction centres, and the Durham Region courthouse are all in close proximity to campus. The Faculty has Masters and Doctoral programs in Forensic Psychology which complement its bachelors degree programs (Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Criminology, Communication and Digital Media Studies, Legal Studies, Liberal Studies, and Political Science) and other graduate programs in Criminology. Psychology faculty members have state-of-the-art research labs, are externally funded, are strong in research, teaching, university and professional service, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

The Psychology program at Ontario Tech University includes specializations in Developmental Psychological Science and Affective Science and Mental Health, and applicants with research expertise in these broad areas are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to applicants with research programs in Developmental, Cognitive, or Affective science; however, other areas of research will be considered.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the tenured and tenure track collective agreement.
