Twelve (12) month Limited Term Position, Learning Specialist, Ancillary Academic Staff I

The University of Windsor’s Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a Twelve (12) month Limited-term Learning Specialist position at the rank of Ancillary Academic Staff I, commencing July 15, 2021. This position is a hybrid position between the Dean’s Office and the Department of English and Creative Writing, and is subject to final budgetary approval.

Duties include: teaching lab components of FAHSS first-year introductory courses, such as Understanding the Contemporary World, Investigating the Contemporary World and Effective Writing (EW), teaching EW in an online or partially online environment; implementing effective teaching and assessment strategies to promote student engagement in large and multidisciplinary courses; working in and fostering a multidisciplinary team environment for teaching; hiring and training large teams of GA/TAs; managing and overseeing large teams of GA/TAs; maintaining Blackboard sites for all sections of EW; and participating in the usual service obligations of the home AAU.

The successful candidate will be expected to have: either a PhD or an MA in English (preference will be given to those holding a degree in Creative Writing, Composition or related fields); completed professional development courses in teaching and learning, online teaching, cross-cultural pedagogical issues, effective assessment and learning outcomes; demonstrated understanding of motivational theory in an educational environment; a track record of success in teaching core skills development courses; a track record of success in online teaching; demonstrated excellence in assessing writing, critical reading, thinking and research skills of students who may be at risk; demonstrated high level interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality; demonstrated organisational and administrative skills, including a proven ability to work as a team member or independently as required; demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills; demonstrated understanding of the principles of anti-discrimination, equity, occupational health and safety and other relevant legislation; demonstrated understanding of the principles of academic integrity; and demonstrated experience managing and hiring large teaching teams of GA/TAs.
