University Librarian

University of Northern British Columbia

The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) aspires to be Canada’s premier small, research-intensive university, with internationally recognized academic and research programs that prepare its graduates in select areas of relevance to the region, province, and beyond.

Based in Prince George, with a beautiful site in the hills overlooking the city of 80,000, UNBC has stunning architecture, and state of the art teaching and learning facilities, and is poised for a period of growth and innovation. Its 4,276 students are engaged in a variety of studies, from arts and sciences to forestry, nursing, management, and now medicine with the Northern Medical Program. The University prides itself on reaching outside of its core campus and offers many programs in regional centers throughout northern BC.

The UNBC Library offers state-of-the-art researching technology in an attractive four-storey Library featuring an impressive wood and light-filled atrium, comprehensive archives, and library holdings reaching 700,000 items. A research-intensive university, UNBC was ranked 2nd overall in Canada in its category in 2020 and 4th for total research dollars.

Reporting to the Provost, and working with the Deans of five newly constituted Faculties, the University Librarian is expected to be a visionary leader at the forefront of library and archival sciences who will lead the library and its dedicated professional staff as it meets the challenges of information and knowledge management in the digital age.

The ideal candidate will bring progressive management experience as a librarian in a university, college, and/or public library system. This is an exciting opportunity for a university librarian who wants to make a mark on a successful post-secondary institution that is still growing and developing.

UNBC encourages applications from all qualified individuals, including women, Indigenous people, visible minorities, and persons with disabilities. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, although Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
