Interventional Cardiologist - Associate, Assistant/Professor - Geographical Full-Time Contingent
University of Manitoba
The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, Shared Health Manitoba, and the St. Boniface Hospital’s Cardiac Sciences Program invite applications for an Interventional Cardiologist in the Section of Cardiology.
This is a geographical, full-time, contingent position at the Assistant, Associate or Professor rank with flexibility of commencement date for a term of 2 years, renewable upon favourable review. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and will consider the incumbent’s current academic rank.
This is an academic position with substantial cardiac resources within the region, primarily at two academic health centres (St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre). At St. Boniface Hospital, there are a total of 3 Interventional Cardiology (IC) laboratories that provide cardiac care for over 1.5 million individuals in Manitoba, Nunavut, and Northwestern Ontario. A total of 6500 cardiac catheterizations are performed annually, of which 3000 involve percutaneous coronary interventions. In addition to 50 chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures that are performed annually, our structural heart disease (SHD) program is nationally renowned for over 200 transcatheter aortic valve implantations annually. As per the Canadian Institutes for Health Information (CIHI), the IC program continues to rank in the top 3 labs across Canada for the lowest 30 day mortality and complication rate for the previous 5 years. Additionally, the University of Manitoba has a RCPSC AFC Interventional Cardiology training program which has graduated up to 10 trainees (PGY-7/8) who have secured academic positions across Canada and the UK.
There are presently 32 full-time academic cardiologists within the Section of Cardiology with major clinical and investigative responsibilities in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography and magnetic resonance, nuclear cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, palliative care, and heart failure and cardiac transplantation.
The successful applicant will have academic potential, including demonstration of effective interdisciplinary communication, a record of prior training in Interventional Cardiology, as well as competency in general cardiology. They must also have clinical and teaching skills to further the aims of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Adult Cardiology.
Candidates must have senior specialty qualifications in Adult Cardiology in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Certification in Adult Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred.
