Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for one teaching-focused tenure-track position in Forest Operations and Forest Management at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Natural Resources Management. The academic rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will commence on July 1st or August 1st, 2026.
Description of the Faculty of Natural Resources Management
The Faculty of Natural Resources Management at Lakehead University is globally recognized for its excellence in research and education in forestry and related disciplines. Lakehead’s program offerings are diverse, ranging from but not limited to the sustainable management of forests and related resources, timber and biomass production, bio-products, biodiversity, wildlife management to environment management. The Faculty has a rich history of successful national and international collaborations with universities, NGOs, and government agencies in research and education. Position description
The position requires a Ph.D. degree in Forest Operations or Forest Management with experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in both forest operations and forest management. Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired. Applicants should be a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or an RPF in Training in any Canadian jurisdiction or at least be eligible for RPF status in Ontario.
The teaching-focused position requires the appointee to commit to the development of educational leadership, such as application of and/or active engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning, the development or utilization of innovative teaching or assessment format or method, involvement in curriculum development and innovation, significant contributions to curriculum development or renewal, course design, new assessment models, pedagogical innovation and other initiatives that extend beyond the member’s classroom and advance the University’s ability to excel in its teaching and learning mandates. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate level courses, including Forest Operations (NRMT 3211), Decision Support Tools (NRMT 3212), Management Planning I (NRMT4212), Management Planning II (NRMT4214), Harvesting II (NRMT4134), Renewable Energy Resources (NRMT4253), and field schools for undergraduate students. The maximum teaching load for the position is eight (8) one-semester courses (8.0 half-course credits, including both courses and field schools). The appointee is also expected to supervise undergraduate theses. Experience in thesis supervision will be an asset.
Compensation
The expected compensation range for this position is: $88,094 - $133,223
Salary will be determined in accordance with the collective agreement and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
