About the Research Centre
The Environmental Sustainability Research Centre is home to an undergraduate minor in environmental sustainability, a Masters program in Sustainability Science and Society, and Canada’s first doctoral program in Sustainability Science. Our mission is to engage in impactful research, learning, and collaboration in support of sustainability. We are dedicated to nurturing an environmental where equity is centred, and where everyone can thrive and contribute to just and sustainability futures. Our strategic plan elaborates on how we act in support of this mission. Our focus on sustainability emphasizes dedicated engagement with community partners in teaching and research.
The ESRC engages faculty affiliates from across all teaching faculties at Brock, and adjunct members across the region and the world. We offer a transformative and creative transdisciplinary community dedicated to advancing environmental sustainability locally and globally.
About the Position
The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applicants for a 12-month Instructional Limited Term Appointment (ILTA) in the Environmental Sustainability Research Centre at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2025. This is a full-time teaching intensive position. The successful candidate will be expected to teach eight courses in areas related to environmental sustainability, environmental psychology, and sustainable communities at the undergraduate level, and sustainability science and interdisciplinary research methods at the masters level. The candidate may be required to teach the following courses:
ENSU 2P01: Introduction to Environmental Sustainability
ENSU 2P02: Environmental Sustainability in Practice
ENSU 3P90: Contemporary Environmental Issues
ENSU 3P92: Environmental Psychology
ENSU 3P93: Building Sustainable Communities
SSAS 5P01: Foundations of Sustainability Science
SSAS 5P02: Methods of Environmental Inquiry
Qualifications
The Centre is seeking candidates with strong knowledge of environmental sustainability and a transdisciplinary orientation. The candidate must have a PhD (all but dissertation (ABD) may be considered) in Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Psychology, Sustainability, Natural Resources Management or a cognate discipline. Previous post- secondary teaching experience is essential. Instructional training is highly desirable. Experiential education experience is highly desirable. Established connections with non-academic organizations for research and/or student training purposes is also desirable.
