One-Year Term at the rank of Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy

University of Winnipeg

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for a one-year term academic faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Subject to budgetary approval, the expected start date is August 1, 2026. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience according to the University of Winnipeg Faculty Association Collective Agreement.

The Department has a long commitment to an historical approach to Philosophy and Philosophical education (see https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/academics/calendar/docs/phil.pdf). The successful candidate will teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses.

The AOS is open, although the Department has teaching needs in Biomedical Ethics.

The teaching assignment is three full-course (6 credit) equivalents. The courses may be assigned at any level. There will be a maximum of three preparations per term.

There is no service component that is required of the successful candidate, although they will be expected to maintain an active research program.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Philosophy or have an expected completion date before July 31, 2026.
Applicants are required to submit the following (all documents in a single PDF):

• a cover letter with, when applicable, an indication of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, and an indication of what courses they would be interested to teach;
• a current Curriculum Vitae listing their degrees earned, and outlining their academic contributions (i.e., evidence of effective teaching, research, and/or service);
• a teaching dossier which includes: (1) a statement of teaching philosophy, (2) a list of university courses taught previously and/or instructional experiences, (3) course outlines from prior teaching experiences, (4) documentation providing evidence of teaching effectiveness, which may contain but is not restricted to peer and student evaluations of teaching, or evidence of inclusive, accessible, and diverse approaches to teaching, if applicable.

Applicants should also arrange to have:

• at least two letters of reference to be submitted directly, by the application deadline, from referees who have knowledge of the candidate’s teaching and/or research (clarifying in what capacity) to: philosophy@uwinnipeg.ca.
