The Faculty of Agriculture invites applications for a full-time, 1 year limited-term English Instructor for the period of July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 in the Department of Business and Social Sciences.
The Department of Business and Social Sciences is one of four departments in the Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University. The Department has nationally recognized strengths in agribusiness education and research, applied and agricultural economics, and rural/agricultural society. The Agricultural campus, located in Bible Hill, is about 100 kilometers away from the main Halifax campus. As a result, the BSS Department also provides required and elective social sciences and humanities courses for programs in the Departments of Animal Science and Aquaculture; Engineering; and Plant, Food, and Environmental Science. Successful applicants meet the following requirements:
- A PhD or master's degree in English or related field from an accredited university;
- Experience teaching English courses at a post-secondary level, especially Introductory Composition courses or similar.
- Competency in teaching and mentoring students with different academic needs and cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Experience teaching online, asynchronous courses would be an asset.
- Engagement working or teaching in a natural sciences environment would be an asset.
- A demonstrated understanding of agricultural and rural issues would be an asset.
The limited term instructor position duties are composed of 80% teaching and 20% service. The successful candidate may be expected to teach up to eight courses over the fall and winter semesters. It should be noted that some courses are repeated in both semesters. Course instruction is delivered in-person, but the instructor may also be assigned section(s) to be delivered in an online, asynchronous modality. As mentioned, some courses are repeated in each term, and topics include Composition, Nature in Literature, and English Studies in Science and Technology.
