Lecturer (part-time) in Clinical Exercise Prescription

Situated on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people in Vancouver, Canada, the School of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a part-time (50%) Lecturer position in Clinical Exercise Prescription. This is a term position for three years, with the possibility of further renewal. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed upon between the University and the successful candidate.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of a master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a closely related area. Candidates must have: (1) knowledge of clinical exercise prescription and assessment; (2) work experience as a clinical exercise physiologist or equivalent with certification from national or international bodies such as Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, American College of Sports Medicine, Exercise & Sports Science Australia, or British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences; and (3) a strong understanding of evidenced-informed practice for clinical exercise physiologists. As the position is part-time, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain their clinical practice external to this position. Preference will be given to candidates who have: (1) experience working with cardiac, pulmonary, cancer, neurological, musculoskeletal, and metabolic populations, as examples; and (2) previous experience teaching practical courses in exercise testing, prescription and/or strength and conditioning.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the School of Kinesiology in the areas of clinical exercise prescription and health and exercise assessment among individuals with chronic disease or disability. These courses will include lecture and lab formats to help prepare undergraduate students to become certified as and work as clinical exercise physiologists. Teaching responsibilities will include preparing class materials, overseeing and delivering experiential learning activities, and assessing student learning and performance. Other teaching-related duties may include managing lab and tutorial activities, mentoring teaching assistants, and coordinating with other instructors and staff involved in the professional kinesiologist/clinical exercise physiologist curricular pathway. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in some service-related activities, such as sitting on the Clinical Exercise Physiology and Professional Kinesiology Advisory Group, which oversees the professional practice curriculum. The annual teaching load for this position is 10.5 credits (equivalent to 3-4 courses), which may include teaching and teaching-related duties, as assigned by the Director.

This position is subject to budgetary approval. The expected starting salary for this position is between $55,000 - $62,000 per annum. Starting salary is determined both by the candidate's qualifications and experience and by their placement on the career progress increment scale within the UBC Faculty of Education.
