About the Position:
This position is responsible for the technical development and management of all automated systems, networks and digital developments in the Library. This position works in close collaboration with department heads, administrative and academic departments to develop the systems and services required by the Library. This position also assists in representing the Library to individuals and groups on and off campus, and performs other related duties.
About the Academic Unit:
The MacOdrum Library promotes excellence at Carleton University by collecting, preserving, and providing access to information resources and services for our teaching, learning, research, and administrative communities, wherever they are located.
The Library consists of a main building at the heart of the campus which holds over 3.7 million items and an on-campus storage facility with a capacity of 800,000 volumes. There are 137 FTE positions in the Library including about 25 librarians, 75 support staff, 3 senior management librarians, and about 75 part-time student positions. The Library participates in co-operative ventures with area libraries and museums as well as libraries in research institutions across Canada. It is also part of the Ontario Consortium of University Libraries and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited school is required. Formal coursework and/or in-depth experience in web design, and/or digital collections management preferred.
Under the general direction of the Associate University Librarian (Technology and Content Services), the Head, Library Technology Services is responsible for establishing the goals, priorities and procedures for the department, as well as the co-ordination and management of all operations and staff in Library Technology Services.
They must also have:
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience managing systems or information technology teams, preferably in an academic or research library setting. In addition, experience working with a mix of locally-hosted and cloud-based applications is strongly preferred.
At least 3 years of experience in information technology, web development, and/or software development.
Demonstrated knowledge of current information technology developments in libraries and higher education.
Strong expertise in managing information technology teams in areas of implementation, operations, and support of library technology, systems, and services.
Strong expertise in project management, specifically as it relates to the implementation of new software, technology or processes on departmental or organizational scale.
Expertise in employing a service-oriented approach to identify, prioritize, implement, and support technology services.
Working knowledge of systems implementation and integration, information architecture, software and web development environments, and technical standards relevant to library systems.
