LIMITED TERM FACULTY POSITION IN ANATOMY

Appointment Type and Rank: A limited term, teaching-intensive faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with candidate experience and accomplishment. The initial appointment will be up to 5 years with the potential for renewal.

Position Profile:
The successful candidate is expected to serve as the lead in developing and teaching the anatomy curriculum within the new Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program at Western, as well as contribute to teaching in upper year undergraduate and graduate courses in the basic sciences, medical, and/or dental education curricula.

Academic Expectations:
Candidates will be expected to engage in interdisciplinary teaching integrating the basic anatomical sciences into clinical contexts, and ensure close coordination of resources with the undergraduate medical education (UME) and other health professional programs. In addition to delivering core anatomy instruction, the candidate will be responsible for developing MPAS-specific instructional materials and will contribute to essential service associated with launching and sustaining an accredited professional program. The successful candidate will also actively engage in collaborative and/or independent research projects that complement existing research strengths in the Department.

Qualifications or Experience and Skills Required:
Applications will be considered from qualified applicants with a PhD, MD or DDS (or equivalent) degree, with a strong background and demonstrated excellence in both classroom and laboratory teaching of gross anatomy. Experience with human cadaveric laboratory teaching is essential, and expertise in neuroanatomy, histology, embryology, or pedagogy would be considered an asset. The candidate is expected to have experience in teaching students using multiple modalities (e.g., in an online learning environment, in small group tutorials, in moderate to large classrooms, in blended learning settings, and in laboratories). The candidate is also expected to have experience with curriculum design and in creating asynchronous online materials. Fluent written and oral communication skills in English are required.

Compensation Details: The annual salary for this will be $105,000 - $145,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Department: The Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology is a multidisciplinary basic science department within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University. The Department fosters world-class research and teaching in Clinical Anatomy, Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) with productive academic and research collaborations with other Departments at Western, affiliated hospitals and research institutes in London and worldwide. The Department has a strong graduate program consisting of both Clinical Anatomy and Biological Research streams and an innovative undergraduate Honours program in Medical Cell Biology. In addition, the Department provides teaching to medical, dental, science and health science students through undergraduate programs in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the Faculties of Science and Health Sciences.

The Faculty: The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is committed to providing excellent undergraduate and graduate education in the field of biomedical sciences, medicine and dentistry. Several components of the undergraduate curriculum in several of the School’s programs will continue to be modernized and/or expanded in the coming years, introducing novel interdisciplinary and experiential opportunities for students and providing excellent opportunities to engage in scholarly activities accompanying the introduction of new curricula in various programs.
