Limited Term Faculty Position in Criminology

Toronto Metropolitan University

Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Criminology in the Faculty of Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) invites applications for a Limited Term Faculty (LTF) position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment shall be effective 1 July 2022 for a one year term, subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will engage only in the teaching and service duties of faculty members in the Department, while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across such activities. Teaching assignments will include:

Fall 2022*
CRM 306 – Corrections in Canada
CRM 308 – Criminal Courts in Canada
CRM 308 – Criminal Courts in Canada

Winter 2023*
CRM 200 - Criminal Law
CRM 200 - Criminal Law
CRM 101 – Understanding Crime in Society

*the combination of courses and terms offered may be subject to change

Candidates must hold a PhD in Criminology or in a related field. Doctoral students who are all-but-dissertation (ABD) may be considered. In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of:

currency related to the substantive areas listed above;
teaching experience specifically in Criminology and preferably experience teaching large undergraduate courses;
demonstrated capacity for teaching excellence at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, as evidenced by a teaching dossier;
commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to teaching and service activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
an ability to contribute to the life of the Department and the University through collegial service.

Our committee recognizes that scholars have varying career paths and that career interruptions can be part of an excellent academic record. Candidates are encouraged to provide any relevant information about their experience and/or career interruptions.

Note: Limited Term Faculty appointments at Toronto Metropolitan University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.
