Limited Term Lecturer - SFU Criminology

Simon Fraser University

DUTIES

To undertake teaching at the undergraduate level of six courses over an eight-month period and provide service in the School of Criminology. It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to the Faculty, University, and the academic community through service.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. (or A.B.D.) in Criminology or a related discipline by the employment start date. The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness by submitting a teaching portfolio/dossier that includes their teaching philosophy and discusses their experience with and/or understanding of inclusive teaching and mentoring, and how the candidate would meet the needs of equity-deserving students. Applicants will be required to teach introductory research methods; however, preference will also be given to those with the ability and willingness to teach criminological theory, introductory criminal justice, and quantitative methods. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching and developing undergraduate criminology curricula and be prepared to assist the School in developing innovative and inclusive course delivery options that provide alternatives to traditional ‘face-to-face’ classroom experiences, including online and other learning environments and settings. This is a temporary, entry-level position. Only those holding or those eligible to be appointed to the rank will be considered. The position is subject to the availability of funding.

Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association. The current salary ranges are based on the 2022-2025 SFU/SFUFA Collective Agreement. A reasonable estimate of the salary range is listed below. These estimates are dependent on experience.

  • Lecturer: $73,755 - $85,681

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF CRIMINOLOGY

The School of Criminology has a well-established undergraduate program with over 900 students. It also offers graduate programs leading to the degrees of M.A. and Ph.D. There are exceptional research opportunities which include access to key research centres and institutes including the International Cyber-Crime Research Centre, the Centre for Forensic Research, the Centre for Restorative Justice, the Institute on Violence, Terrorism and Security, and the FREDA Centre for Feminist Research, Education, Development and Action. The faculty is multi-disciplinary and, at present, consists of 30 regular full-time members. Our School has a strong research and teaching emphasis, with an award-winning interdisciplinary faculty and internationally recognized graduate program. School faculty regularly consult with the highest level of government and nongovernment agencies on policy-based research at the national, provincial, and local levels.
