The Department of Accounting in the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The proposed start date is July 1, 2026.
Job Information and Responsibilities
Applications are welcome from all areas of accounting, but the Department will give preference to candidates with a strong ability to teach in the areas of Management Accounting or Management Information Systems. The successful applicant should have strong research credentials and aspire to be an outstanding teacher. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in accounting in hand or be nearing completion. A track record of, or potential for, scholarly research and publication in respected academic journals is expected. A professional accounting designation will be considered a strong asset.
Demonstrated excellence in, or an aptitude for, teaching accounting at the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected. Teaching responsibilities may include the coordination of multi-section classes at the undergraduate level. Other teaching duties at the undergraduate or graduate level will be determined based on the successful candidate's background, interests, and program needs.
Salaries are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Saint Mary’s also offers a wide range of employee benefits such as start-up funding for research, and a reduced teaching load in the first two years of appointment. Teaching load reductions may continue if externally funded with grants from SSHRC, CIHR, NSERC or other external funding sources. The Department of Accounting has a full-time complement of 14 faculty members, supported by several part-time working professionals. We provide programming for over 300 undergraduate accounting majors and offer courses and support to numerous other undergraduate and graduate programs.
