Position Profile:
The successful applicant will be welcomed to the Ivey Business School faculty as the inaugural Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business Chair. The Chair’s mandate is to position Ivey for long-term leadership in AI research that addresses AI broadly, in both analytical and, especially, generative forms. The Chair will lead new research on AI in business and advocate for AI learning and research across Ivey, connecting and marshalling interest and AI-relevant talent internally within Ivey. The Chair will also help build a dedicated team across Ivey to ensure rigor and relevance in AI research and teaching. In addition, the Chair will develop and extend Ivey’s connections around AI with leaders across business, government, and not-for-profit sectors. In that work, the Chair will foster opportunities for collaboration across Canada and around the world. The Chair’s work will incorporate the ethical, legal, societal and governance considerations arising from the development and use of AI. The Chair is for an initial five-year term and is renewable.
Academic Expectations:
The successful candidate will sustain an active, internationally recognized research program on the strategic, organizational, and societal effects of AI, building new ways to think about the emerging and evolving significance of AI. Depending on the research and background of the successful candidate, teaching responsibilities will be in Ivey’s Information Systems and/or Strategy Area Groups. Beyond research and teaching, the Chair will build and steward partnerships with universities, corporations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and government bodies across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries in support of the chair’s AI mission. The chair will also attract research funding in support of the AI research and teaching mission.
Qualifications or Experience Required:
Research
Applicants must possess a PhD in strategy, information systems, or adjacent disciplines, with demonstrated ability to provide insight into important aspects of how AI and business intersect. Applicants must also be an internationally recognized scholar as demonstrated by publications in quality academic journals, an active and continuing research program, external research funding, scholarly awards, and invited presentations at seminars and major conferences. The successful applicant will have a record of peer-reviewed research publications in an established management or management-adjacent field. The successful candidate will also have a track record of engaging industry and practitioners in research. The Chair will have demonstrated a capacity to attract peer-reviewed research funding at the level needed to sustain a nationally and internationally leading research program, with a particular emphasis on Tri-Council grants or equivalents.
Teaching
The successful applicant will have a record of teaching courses that contribute to management education or adjacent disciplines, a track record of bringing leading-edge research into teaching, and evidence of strong teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Service
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to operate across traditional academic silos, connect business practice with research, and build support for AI research and teaching. The successful candidate will have a track record of relationship-building with diverse international partners, including other universities, corporations, NGOs, and government bodies. The successful applicant will also have excellent communication skills, leadership skills that inspire colleagues to collaborate, and a demonstrated record of building partnerships.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and administrative staff within the Ivey Business School and the broader university community. The successful candidate will exhibit strong communication abilities, cultural competence, and the capacity to foster positive relationships across diverse groups.

It is multidisciplinary by nature, drawing strongly from disciplines such as organizational behaviour and business strategy, as well as from computer science and technology.
