Term Faculty Position (Teaching-Stream) in Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering is a growing unit and is one of four departments in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science. A major goal of this department is to be the greenest civil
engineering department in Canada addressing the most pressing global environmental and sustainability challenges through engineering design, science, and practical solutions. Our research and graduate programs focus on green civil engineering solutions for Canada and beyond. Our undergraduate program teaches fundamental competencies supplemented with cutting-edge ideas
from environmental science, building science and industrial ecology.

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Victoria is seeking applications for Teaching-Stream faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor for a term of 1 year
with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2024 (or as negotiated). Part-time appointments may be considered.

We are seeking individuals who have a record of excellence in teaching and can teach a variety of
Civil Engineering courses at the university level. Requirements include:
• Either:
o A PhD in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Or:
o A Master’s or PhD degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with significant industry experience.
• Canadian Professional Engineering registration.

Teaching duties are expected to include reinforced concrete structural design and geomatics engineering (domain expertise in geomatics is not essential), with other courses depending on the
applicant’s areas of expertise. Demonstration of significant pedagogical inquiry, teaching innovation, and leadership in advancing undergraduate education would be considered a significant
asset.

Evidence of participation in instructional development (e.g., presentations, publications, or participation in workshops/conferences related to teaching) will be considered an asset. The EDI
