Assistant Professor (Limited-Term, Full-time Instructor), Psychology

Western University

The Department of Psychology at Western University invites applications for a Limited Term, 10-month full-time instructor position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek to hire an instructor who will carry out the following teaching duties: 1) Develop laboratory/tutorial exercises for our second year statistics and research methods courses (Psychology 2801, 2802, 2811, 2812). These materials will be developed under an authoring agreement and will remain freely available for future use by the Department of Psychology without restriction. 2) Serve as Coordinator for the laboratory/tutorial sections of our second year statistics and research methods courses (Psychology 2801, 2802, 2811, 2812) including supervision and regular meetings with Graduate Teaching Assistants in collaboration with course instructors. 3) Serve as course instructor for Psychology 2802G, Research Methods in Psychology II and Psychology 2812B, Statistics for Psychology II that will both be offered in winter term (January through April) in the 2022-23 academic year. 4) Supervise a group of Honours Thesis students (up to 15 students) conducting their thesis research by analyzing pre-existing and/or publicly available datasets, conducting meta-analyses, and/or quantitative literature reviews. In fulfilling the teaching duties listed above, the successful applicant will work closely with the instructors of Psychology 2801F, 2801G, 2811A and 2811B. The anticipated start date is Aug 1, 2022 and anticipated end date is May 31, 2023.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Psychology or equivalent, or have completed all components of the PhD except final defence and revisions by September 1, 2022. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching statistics and research methods to psychology undergraduate students, and in mentoring undergraduate students in statistics and data analyses. The successful applicant will also have a demonstrated ability to use R and/or Python in teaching statistics to undergraduate students, and will implement the use of these programs in the tutorial/laboratory exercises for Psychology 2811 and 2812.
