Surrey School District, SD36
Assistant Superintendents represent the heart of our Educational Leadership Team in Surrey and we are excited to seek applications from inspiring, innovative and passionate leaders to join our team. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, the Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for a geographical area of schools in addition to holding other significant leadership portfolios. Working with five other Assistant Superintendents, the successful candidate will work hand in hand with colleagues in leading and supporting our vision for students which is articulated as Learning by Design.
Surrey is British Columbia’s fastest-growing community and our 130 schools provide quality education to over 73,000 students and we are supported by 11,000 staff. Serving a diverse, multicultural urban centre, we believe we are an innovative school district offering a broad range of programs and services. We work daily to make a large place seem small by placing value on relationships and connections. Multiculturalism is our norm with over 200 languages spoken in our community and we also serve the single largest population of Indigenous students in BC. We live and work on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish People and we are proud of our supportive relationships with the Katzie, Kwantlen and Semiahmoo First Nations.
Surrey has a deep and rich culture of innovation and inquiry, and while we serve a large urban centre, we also have small schools in agricultural areas. We are proud to support an engaging learning culture and to provide tremendous opportunities for achieving excellence. We believe that quality learning begins in the classroom where teachers are designers of rich and engaging learning opportunities. It is supporting this work of teachers that is at our core of Learning by Design.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and skill in working with school leaders and their staffs on a range of educational priorities in order to achieve our most important goal which is improving the life chances of every child through Learning by Design.
The Assistant Superintendent’s work includes:
Demonstrating instructional leadership by working closely with principals and vice-principals as the leads in their schools;
