We are seeking a Director for the StFX Art Gallery to provide strategic leadership which connects the Gallery to our regional arts community, through her/his knowledge of the visual arts. The candidate is responsible for managing the Gallery, maintaining and expanding the University’s collections, working closely with the StFX Art Department, organizing exhibitions, special events, writing grants, and ensuring the financial stability of the Gallery in the long term.
Established in 1976, the Art Gallery plays an important role in supporting the academic mission of the University, engaging students, faculty, staff, the Art Gallery Board, and members of the community, artists and donors alike who wish to share in the celebration of art in our programs and events. The Gallery is an important partner in the cultural landscape of the campus. It houses diverse collections and its Director, who reports to the Academic Vice-President & Provost, manages the display and distribution of works of art across campus. The candidate should also have connections to our regional and national arts communities.
The successful candidate will have a BFA or BA degree in Art History, Master’s preferred, with 5-7 years experience and a demonstrated commitment to the visual arts, a knowledge of contemporary art, a minimum of three years of curatorial experience, a knowledge of collection standards, project management skills, exhibition installation skills, excellent communications skills, both oral and written, and social media acumen. The candidate will be an excellent facilitator of collaboration among both internal and external stakeholders.
