Assistant Professor, Financial Technologies (Fintech)
The Telfer School of Management, at the University of Ottawa, invites applications for one tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Finance, with a focus on Financial Technologies (Fintech), commencing July 1, 2020.
We are seeking candidates with strong research and publication potential/record in Fintech (or related areas) such as blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, e-payment, security and privacy issues in financial applications, computational and quantitative finance, and any area related to financial technology. Research expertise in all areas of finance will be considered; however, preference will be given to candidates with interest and experience in Fintech.
Title of the position: One position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
Primary roles will be to undertake high quality research that is capable of publishing in the leading academic journals in finance or related fields and to engage in the development and delivery of new programs and courses. The selected candidate will perform, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities; c) academic service activities; and d) supervision of graduate students.
Terms: Tenure-track position.
Salary & Benefits Package:
Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience where Assistant Professor salaries typically start at $130,000 per year. The University of Ottawa provides a complete and generous compensation package which includes long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, a University of Ottawa defined benefits pension plan, optional life insurance and funds for reimbursement of eligible moving expenses. The School also offers a start-up period with a reduced teaching load and start-up funding for research.

Education: Ph.D. (or ABD) in Finance, Economics or Computer Science.
o Commensurate with rank and experience, a high-potential program of research in Finance; for candidates applying at the Associate rank, the quality of the research program must be demonstrated by articles published in high quality peer-reviewed journals;
o Strong teaching competency at the undergraduate, professional (MBA/EMBA) and Master’s and/or Ph.D. levels as demonstrated by past teaching evaluations and a presentation given to faculty members and students if invited for an interview;
o Applicants appointed at the Associate Professor level are preferred to have experience in graduate student supervision;
o Ability to define, lead, manage and attract funds for internationally excellent research.

Otherwise, for those applying at the rank of Associate Professor, names and contact information of three individuals who may be contacted for references.
